Two approaches for Vietnam when facing low 4-4-2 blocks.
False 9 route
Pull a centre-back out, open half-space for the 8s to run through.
Inverted winger attacks the inside channel, full-back overlaps to create 2v1 wide.
Risk: fewer bodies in the box if 8s don’t crash late.
Target striker route
Pin both CBs, act as a wall pass for the 10/8 to shoot from zone 14.
Use low cut-backs instead of high crosses to avoid aerial disadvantage.
Risk: slow build-up lets 4-4-2 compress and close the between-line space.
Recommendation
Start with a target striker for direct outlets in the first 15 minutes, then switch to a false 9 once the opponent tires to exploit gaps between the lines.
